About Me

Oliver Kurth was born in 1974 in Weener, Ostfriesland.

From 1996-2001 he studied visual communication in Hannover with a main focus on illustration. But he also gained comprehensive experience in the realm of computer animation.

During his studies he was already working as a freelance illustrator for different clients.

In 1999 he joined Ambient Entertainment and started working on the pre-production for the first german fully computer animated feature film BACK TO GAYA. Right after his diploma in 2001 the movie went into production and he is working there as the lead character designer and supervisor/art director since, overseeing every design step in the creation of the characters - literally from tip to toe.

In 2004 the the second feature film URMEL AUS DEM EIS (Impy's Island) followed. Based on the popular german children's book the movie became a huge success in 2006.

In 2006 the production on the sequel to URMEL AUS DEM EIS began. URMEL VOLL IN FAHRT (Impy's Wonderland) hit cinemas in May 2008. This time Oliver solely designed and supervised all of the new characters.

Since April 2008 he is working on the big screen adaption of the famous children's book KONFERENZ DER TIERE (Animals United) by Erich Kästner. The movie is scheduled for an early 2010 release. But until then a lot of work has to be done.

Oliver has not only worked as character designer and supervisor on these movies. He also did AfterFX compositing, matte paintings, colorkeys, artwork, poster designs and a lot more.

Beside his work on the movies he is still working as a freelance illustrator.

He also takes the time to do free works and projects.
